The snare is a smaller drum with a higher, sharper sound. It’s often played in alternation with the kick to form the backbone of a drum pattern. Just as with kicks, there’s a lot of variety in snare sounds. They may come from vintage drum machines, or they may be generated with . Others are made by playing an actual drum in a particular way with a stick. It’s common for several different sounds like claps or snaps to be layered together with drums to create the overall “snare” sound.
