What is a cymbal?
Page 1 of 11Cymbals are flat, round, specially crafted pieces of metal that create a wide variety of sounds, from short and sharp to soft and washy. One cymbal can make many different sounds depending on how it’s struck. And just like with the kick and snare drums, electronic sounds can also take the place of actual cymbals. They go by names like crash, ride, and hat, and each one performs different roles in drum patterns, from keeping the beat, to shaping phrases and transitions.
