Crash rules everything around me

Listen for the crash cymbal that calls out the beginning of the 4-bar phrase, or grouping of bars. And the hi hats here are doing much more than just keeping time. They’re at the forefront, dancing above the halftime kick and snare and subdividing the beat by 2, 4, and 6.

Turn on the metronome and listen to how the hi hat subdivides the beat. Also listen for how the rhythm of the hi hat works together with the crash cymbal to define the phrase.
